Description
This one-day course is designed to provide delegates with a clear understanding of all the aspects which cover the use of Abrasive Wheels detailed under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98).

Course Content
- Prevent and minimise the number of accidents arising from the use of abrasive wheels
- Demonstrate an awareness of the hazards and the precautions required to minimise risks
- Demonstrate an understanding of methods of marking abrasive wheels
- Demonstrate competence in safely and correctly mounting abrasive wheels
- Demonstrate knowledge of storage and handling abrasive wheels.

- The Law regarding Abrasive Wheels (PUWER 98)
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Types of Abrasive Wheels
- Abrasive Wheel composition
- Abrasive Wheel Bond, Bonding Materials and Abrasives
- Hard and Soft Abrasive Wheels
- British Standard Marking System
- Bond structure, Grade and Grit sizes
- Abrasive Wheel hazards and precautions to be taken
- Grinding m/c guards/purpose of guards
- Wheel Inspection/Assembly of Grinding Wheel Components (hands-on)
- Wheel mounting/truing and dressing/guard and tool-rest adjustment (hands-on)
- Safe handling and storage of Abrasive Wheels (hands-on)
- Inspection/maintenance of Grinding Machines.
Method of Assessment
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a Neath Port Talbot College Certificate of Attendance covering wheel types 1, 5, 7, 27, 41, 42 & 52.
